NAUFRAGI, 2025

Sound: Oleksandr Stoliarov
Animation excerpts: Francesco Lo Castro, Ricardo Agudelo, Edward Chiu, Beeple.

In a chance meeting in Sicily this year, two artists found each other across the fault lines of displacement. One a Sicilian expat in America, the other a Ukrainian refugee fleeing a homeland transformed by war—we recognized in each other the particular weight of belonging nowhere and everywhere at once. What began as introduction became collaboration, then lifeline.

NAUFRAGI emerged from this encounter: I offered fragments from my archive, and Oleksandr responded with sound—composing a haunting sonic landscape that reimagines these images through the lens of his own exile. He shifted my perspective, revealing what I couldn't see in my own work. Together, we cast anchors into uncertain waters, mooring ourselves to each other across continents through the only language we trust: our art.

This is our dialogue across upheaval. A testament to what can be built when two people refuse to let distance, war, or displacement have the final word.
